Nonprofit company PortCheck will begin the Port of Long Beach’s Clean Truck Fee program effective Wednesday, February 18, 2009.  This program is being implemented to accelerate the replacement of thousands of polluting cargo trucks that circulate in and out of the Port of Long Beach.  All cargo trucks entering the port of Long Beach will be subject to this fee.  The Clean Truck Program is part of the Clean Air Action Plans (CAAP) of the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, which have the goal of reducing emissions of harmful pollutants by 45% by year 2012.  The monies collected will be used to fund the purchase of new, clean trucks for the ports.    

There are two Clean Truck Fees:  $35 per 20’ container and $70 per container larger then 20’. 

The Invasive Species Fee implemented by the State of Hawaii in September 2008 has been billed to HFS customers via a line item on our freight bills titled ‘Environmental Port Fee (EPF)’.  We will incorporate this Clean Truck Fee into the Environmental Port Fee.  Please be advised this will only apply to shipments exiting Los Angeles and Long Beach.  Effective February 18, 2009 the EPF will be $0.06 per cubic foot for shipments subject to ‘per cube’ rates and $0.30 per hundred weight for shipments subject to ‘per hundred weight’ rates.
