We realize that you have many options when it comes to transportation providers; thank you for choosing Honolulu Freight Service.  We appreciate the opportunity to bring value to your business.  Your need for faster transit, more flexibility and specialized shipping services drive our initiatives, therefore strengthening our commitment to you and your businesses.

We are faced with the fact that the two major ocean carriers servicing Hawaii have filed for a General Rate Increase (GRI) effective January 1, 2007.   This will raise rates an average of 3.3%.  In addition, the ocean carriers will also take a substantial increase in the terminal handling charge.  As a result, it is necessary for Honolulu Freight Service to pass these increases on to our customers.

Rising costs for areas such as healthcare and cargo security requirements are familiar to most businesses.  We also face pressures unique to transportation providers such as increases in taxes and the worsening highway congestion that spark higher operating costs and reduce truck productivity.  We face a shortage of qualified drivers, due to the increase of similar jobs in the construction field, as well as the Department of Transportation hours of service rules that limit the driving time for drivers.  This operating environment has made it necessary to implement a general rate increase on the local delivery rates for Oahu of 5.5%.  The P.U.C. has also granted our agent on the Big Island a 10% increase.  Our delivery rates will increase accordingly effective January 1, 2007.

If you have questions regarding these rate adjustments, please contact your Honolulu Freight Service Account Manager.  Thank you again for your continued support.  We sincerely appreciate and value your business.
